This series, Material Memory, consists of images I created while staying alone at my parents’ home, a place I lived in from birth until leaving for college. Much of my memory is rooted in this house and the objects that fill it. Returning on my own gave me the space to observe it differently than I did growing up. The furniture, clothing, and decorations that have remained unchanged for over twenty years make the subtle changes seem more drastic. My childhood bedroom, once a personal and familiar space, is now filled with random holiday decorations and my sister’s wedding dress. This change disrupts my sense of memory, creating a feeling that is both nostalgic and unsettling. To reflect these bittersweet emotions, I physically altered the photographs using paper and cutting, distorting the original images.
